Recently, foreign media reported that a nitrogen leak occurred at an Indian pharmaceutical company located about 130 kilometers from Mumbai, resulting in four deaths and two serious injuries.
The four victims were reportedly working near a nitrogen reactor at Medley Pharmaceuticals’ Boisar-Tarapur plant at the time of the incident.
Preliminary police investigations indicate that the cause of death was nitrogen overdose, but a detailed investigation is ongoing.
Disaster management officials revealed that the leak originated from a 3,000-kilogram underground tank used to produce albendazole (a drug used to treat various parasitic infections).
Following the incident, the Mumbai Fire Department quickly dispatched a specialized emergency rescue team with specialized expertise in handling hazardous chemical accidents. Preliminary investigations indicate that the leak was caused by a faulty tank valve.
The local government, police, and relevant departments have launched a comprehensive investigation to determine the specific cause of the nitrogen leak and assess potential safety hazards at the pharmaceutical plant.
